According to Ayurveda, everything inside, outside and around us consists of gunas, or qualities. Following the Ayurvedic philosophy of “like increases like” you absorb the qualities of what you eat. For instance if you eat something spicy, you increase the heat or Pitta in the body which can lead to hot emotions such as anger and frustration. Similarly indulging in sweet carb heavy foods can increase the Kapha or dense earth-like qualities in the body that can translate to dullness in the mind. Becoming mindful of how our meals can make us feel will ultimately lead to making better food choices for our mental health.
