Yoga to Help Calm the Mind & Body During Election Season - Yoga Pose

Campaigns, polling booths, long lines, arguments with family members and watching the news to see which states turn blue or red.

All these things come to mind when we think of the upcoming Presidential election.

The mere thought of election season can be exhilarating and equally anxiety provoking. There are collective emotions of excitement, anger, hope and sadness. Coming together and helping to shape the future of our country is a monumental time that can feel empowering and extremely stressful at the same time. Given the current political climate, anxiety has been at an all time high for the entire nation.

While important to keep us informed, platforms such as social media and news outlets can exacerbate the high levels of stress we may experience during election season.

The high emotions that present themselves during this time can wreak havoc on our mental and physical well being. It is imperative that we take the time out to tend to our mind and body so that we are better prepared to face the challenges that come with participating in election season.

One of the best ways we can help calm the racing mind and tense body is through yoga. Yoga helps synchronize movement and breath which ultimately leads to the alignment of mind and body. This alignment is especially important in dealing with high stress emotions such as anger, anxiety and even panic. By breathing fully and stretching deeply, we are able to be present in the current moment which can lead to feeling grounded, calm and alert.
