What Causes Osteoporosis?
Did you know that women are four times more at risk of developing osteoporosis than men? This is because estrogen levels drop as a woman nears menopause, which causes a loss in bone density.
As for men, a drop in testosterone can also cause osteoporosis. But most of the time, this only starts to happen around 70 years of age.
Other risk factors of osteoporosis include:
– Smoking
– Having a small or thin stature
– Too much intake of alcohol or sodium
– Hereditary
– Sedentary lifestyle
– Deficiency of vitamin D, protein or calcium
